The Joomla Community Magazine comes out each month with at least 10 - ideally more - articles on everything Joomla. Our magazine allows people to discover Joomla core’s features, read case studies, and get to know Joomlers, members of the leadership, extensions developers and template designers through interviews. We do this with a team that is very enthusiastic and dedicated, but a little too small. We would very much like you to join us - here's the vacancies we currently have!
To keep a continuous flow of interesting content going, we need authors for all kinds of articles.
Would you like to tell the world about everything you can do with Joomla or extensions or share case studies about projects you’ve done? The JCM is your stage!
Are you good at explaining things? Go ahead, write about Joomla’s features in our Explore the Core series, and help newbies on their way by showing them the endless possibilities Joomla has to offer.
If you’d like to help out but don’t know what to write about, just browse through the magazine and look at the topics others have covered. That might give you some ideas. And if it doesn’t, there’s always the possibility of interviewing people and letting them tell the story instead. For instance for one of our series: Meet a Joomler, Meet the Team or Getting Extensions Ready for Joomla 4. For these series we even have super handy templates with questions, ready to use!
You can join the team or write occasionally. So if you don’t have much time (or have commitment issues), you can still contribute and we’re happy to have you on board.

Once you’re an author, you can submit your articles. Each contribution submitted before the 15th of each month is considered for inclusion in the release of the month. One of our editors will review your article. If approved, it will be included. If it’s not approved (yet), we will contact you to see if we can improve it together.
Maybe submitting directly is a step too far for you. For instance, because you’re not sure about your English, or the length of the article, or if it’s good enough, or whatever reason you might have. Maybe you just need a little feedback or guidance. That is perfectly fine. You can choose to write your article in a Google Doc first and share it with us so a JCM team member can review it, help you with the writing or provide suggestions. Do not hesitate: this is what we do and we love to do it.
That would make the whole JCM Team do a happy dance. After that, we would invite you to join our Glip channel. That is the place where we meet twice a month for chat based planning meetings. From our authors we expect magazine contributions on a regular basis. And you get access to the JCM Google Drive where you can find interview templates and article drafts.
As a team member, you’re also a member of Open Source Matters, the non-profit organisation supporting the Joomla! project. That means you have membership rights, and that means you have voting rights in elections for Team Leader, Department Coordinators and Board Members.

Would you like to help make the articles submitted by our authors even better? Join the team and become an editor. As an editor, you are not just correcting typos and catching grammar errors. You are the one that makes the author shine, that makes the content outstanding, reaching its goal and understandable for everyone who reads it.
If you want to go a little further, you can help authors with reshaping or restructuring their text, and guide them to become better writers by giving constructive feedback and helpful suggestions.
First of all, you become a team member (see above). After that, you have access to all the tools you need. We use GitHub to communicate about the status of the articles and follow the publishing workflow. Once an author has an article ready, it’s either submitted to the JCM directly (we use EasyBlog) or shared in Google Drive. In the first case, editing is done directly in the JCM. If it’s in Google Drive, you can do a little more: add suggestions, edit and if necessary explain why you edited, ask for clarification and give feedback.
We JCM people all love writing good articles that are helpful and make an interesting read. To ensure they are found in Google with the right keywords is a whole different ball game. Perhaps your ball game? If SEO is your expertise, or something you really like to do, we would welcome you with open arms as our very first SEO enthusiast (or specialist, if you like that name better).
As our webmaster you are the one responsible for the technicalities. Updates, fix things that are broken, basically everything tech you would do on your own website or the one(s) you maintain for your client(s). Good to know: we use EasyBlog for magazine posts, and GitHub for reporting bugs. And we hardly ever break anything. Oh and: we have a webmaster handbook.
At the JCM we love what we do. We are pretty autonomous, so we manage to get a magazine issue out every month, but we are convinced that we would be capable of achieving much more… if only we had a Team Leader. Which we don’t, at the moment, but I guess you figured that out already.
As a Team Leader, you’re the one enabling the team to excel. You arrange, plan and chair the planning meetings and coordinate the publication of the JCM. You encourage people to write for the magazine, onboard new authors and recruit team members.
You prepare monthly readership statistics via Google Dashboard (probably together with our SEO enthusiast) and share them with the team.
You’re chief editor, so you can edit articles yourself and coordinate the other editors. If you like to write articles, of course you can write all you like.
And last but not least, you attend the meetings of the Outreach Department, the place where the exciting stuff happens: this department is responsible for bringing Joomla out to the whole world! This is where all the marketing activities, communications and outreach to the Community are coordinated.
